Orthodontic Treatment – what can be expected?

Irregularly rooted teeth, irregular dental occlusion, disorders of the face-jaw system development – a lot of people face this problem. It not only causes discomfort and a psychological complex to smile, but also hinders the care of the teeth – decay and inflammations are more easily found in hard-to-clean areas. This problem affects both children and adults and no matter how many years a patient has – this discomfort can be solved by orthodontic treatment.

Orthodontic dental treatment is applied to all children and adults with all rooted permanent teeth, and it is especially recommended to pay attention to the condition of teeth of children aged 7-14, as diagnosis and treatment are much easier and more effective at that age. In order to start treatment, a dentist should first be consulted, who will evaluate the need for treatment – dentist will check the dental occlusion, the position of the teeth, take impressions of the teeth and produce gypsum dental models, carry out detailed analysis of the X-ray pictures and prescribe a detailed treatment plan.

Orthodontic devices – preventive treatment or braces, plates and functional devices – are prescribed after dental examination. The preventive method is applied at an early age, such as myotherapy, exercise, wearing an orthodontic trainer. There are different kinds of braces and they can be chosen depending on the will of every person.

Another option to straighten your teeth is plates made under individual order. They are unsuitable for adults, they are usually used to treat teeth of children and adolescents aged 7 to 14 years, because then their faces grow and change. The plates straighten the curved teeth, prevent the formation of jaw deformation and facial asymmetry. During the intensive period of dental growth, functional devices are also used that correct irregular dental occlusion and convex profile.

In less difficult cases, the teeth are straightened with trays or liners that are produced digitally individually according to the patient`s tooth arch. Wearing several different trays one by one, the dental arches become straighter. Trays are transparent and they can be removed at any time, so this straightening method is one of the most aesthetic.

Choosing the expected orthodontic treatment, the duration depends on the age of the patient, the complexity of the dental condition and the patient`s compliance with the treatment regimen and co-operation, since additional oral care is required when wearing braces. After active orthodontic treatment, retinal treatment is applied, which allows the tissues to adapt to new dental spaces. However, orthodontic treatment is not available if the position of the teeth is particularly complicated, as tooth extraction may be necessary, and surgical operation is performed in case of severe jaw deformation.
